Hello my fellow bookworms! I hope this post finds your week of to a wonderful start! So in a surprising turn of events this week of college is actually turning out to be not bad! One of my professor's is celebrating the birth of his child and has canceled class for the week and everyone is apparently in a good mood because I have no homework! Which means...Blog stuff! Well...in this case vlog stuff! I know our last post was a vlog post of the September OwlCrate unboxing but I have a new kind of video that I'm super excited for! I promise, I promise there will be more book reviews up in just a few days but I have some cool things for you today!
I have been wanting to do this for a while and I'm so glad it is finally able to happen because I've seen friends do this and it looks like so much fun! This week we're starting Reaction Videos! So basically, we're going to watch clips of an episode together and you'll see how I react and you can tell me all about your reactions in the comments! I was hesitant to do this at first because as well all know I am not the most technologically savvy person and I didn't want to have to get software and figure all that jazz out. But the handy dandy MacBook comes with all of that built in! Thus! Reaction Videos exist!
I wanted to start with my favorite series which just had it's Season 3 Premiere: Outlander! I know, I know I'm excited too. I've been watching Outlander since I was a freshman in high school (eek I know) and reading the books since I was a sophomore! So I've been waiting for season 3 for a while and I was so excited when it finally aired but I had self control and I waited. Because I wanted to be able to film my reactions without being a burden on my roommates. With that being said, these videos will probably be coming out every week and a half or so. I don't get a lot of free time in the room by myself, and I like to film when the room is empty so I'm being respectful to my roommates and not bothering them with my reactions or the sound of the show playing!
These videos also take a long time to edit. I had to film it in portions for time and storage purposes. All in all it took me about 3 hours to edit because you have to trim out the parts where you aren't reacting and make sure the audio lines up and blah blah blah. Lots of frustrating hours. This is also very taxing on my computer (especially the exporting to YouTube process) if you follow my twitter you know my computer really hates me today. It's ok I'll buy a new sticker for it's case.
These videos are also really tricky because copyright infringement is such a finicky thing. I did have an entirely different version of this video posted this morning, but was blocked within thirty seconds because a copyright claim was made. Just to be clear, in no way do I claim to own the Outlander content or the rights, and this is not affiliated with Diana Gabaldon, Starz Network, or the Outlander franchise. I just really freaking love this show. But I took that video down, re-edited it and as of right now it has been 33 minutes and my video is still live! So it's definitely a learning process and I will for sure get the hang of it!
Though, it's a lot of work, I'm really excited about these videos. I think it adds another dimension to the website and another way for fans of all of these bookish things to come together and find each other. So, I may complain about it on twitter (that's what twitter is for right?) but I promise I really do love it and to me all of it is worth it!
Phew, now that that is off my chest let's get to the good stuff!
Season 3 of Outlander is based on Diana Gabaldon's third book in the Outlander Series: Voyager! I just finished Voyager a few weeks ago at the Porter Square Readathon (vlog to come) and I am really excited to get started on Drums of Autumn! So without further ado.... Here's the video!:
